Data Breach and What You Need to KnowOn September 9th, a malicious hacker accessed some data on our service and some information about your IMVU account may have been accessed as part of that data breach. The database accessed is for registrations prior to 2008, and contains basic account details such as avatar name, email address, and date of birth - but it does NOT contain payment information (e.g. credit card numbers), tax identification or other data usually associated with financial risk or identity theft. A detailed description is provided via the link below.
We are engaged with the FBI and other security experts to ensure we are taking the correct follow-up steps.
Please change your IMVU account password immediately, and if you have used the same password for other services, change those passwords too. Our team is still at work to investigate and audit our systems and take appropriate mitigation actions. If we become aware of additional information that we think is relevant to our customers, we will share that information.
It is important that you visit this forum post by IMVU's CEO Brett Durrett for complete details about the data breach and what you need to do.
